We're the ones with the algae! As one of the few manufacturers in Germany, we cultivate organic spirulina ourselves, instead of having it transported from the other side of the world. Further processing and marketing are also in our hands. This allows us to guarantee you products of the best raw food quality and the greatest possible transparency in all production steps.
How exactly are the microalgae cultivated in this country? What do they need to grow? And how are they harvested and processed? Here you can find out everything about the cultivation, harvesting and processing of organic spirulina on our algae farm.
Our Algae Farm
Our algae farm is located in Großenkneten near Oldenburg, surrounded by fields, meadows, and forests. Here we cultivate and harvest the blue-green algae – and here we develop new products, ideas, and a lot of inspiration for your conscious lifestyle.
Our laboratory is also located on the premises, where the pre-cultures of organic spirulina are grown. A team of scientists ensures high quality and works on long-term developments.
Cultivation of Organic Spirulina
First, the microalgae are cultivated in small quantities in the laboratory until they can multiply in the large water basins in the greenhouse. To grow, algae only need carbon dioxide from the air, sunlight, a few nutrients, and water.
Our basins, which are located under glass, are filled only with German drinking water – one reason for the high quality of our algae products.
After a short time, the algae have multiplied so much that the basin is bursting with them, and we can harvest them.
Harvesting of Organic Spirulina
Since organic spirulina multiplies rapidly under good conditions, we harvest daily from approximately the end of March to November. During our many years of working with microalgae, we have developed a special harvesting process that allows us to obtain a solid algae paste, which we can gently dry and further process. In winter, our algae are in a dormant state - as there is a lack of sufficient light and warmth.
Gentle Processing: Good Things Take Time.
After harvesting, our organic spirulina is gently dried at low temperatures. We give it the necessary time for this, as spray drying is not an option for our natural product.
After the algae has lost its moisture, it is either broken into chips or further processed into powder and crumbs. Our specially developed ball mill makes it possible to gently grind the crumbs into a fine powder.
The low drying temperatures and the gentle processing in the mill ensure the mild taste of our organic spirulina. Our quality, taste, and smell of the algae are unique and speak for themselves.
The result: freshly harvested, gently dried organic spirulina algae in excellent raw food quality. With only good things – completely without frills.
Our tip
Find out more in specialist literature, from naturopaths, doctors, or nutritionists. There is also a lot to be found on the internet about the ingredients of spirulina algae. For example, iron and vitamin K are already known, but often not so much in focus in our diet. In addition, spirulina also contains chlorophyll, which is super interesting. Important, pay attention to good sources.
